The Fall - Hit The North 12"

With a legend like Mark E Smith at the helm, you're sure to have some solid tunes coming from your speakers. This is the case with The Fall, one of the most prolific groups coming out of the gloomy post-punk era. Having a parade of releases to choose from, I had to think hard and venture which one I would garner as my choice for this post. When it all came down to it, I found this EP was on top of the list, not only for it's brilliant title track, but the magnificent Sex Pistols meets Damned impersonation in 'Australians In Europe'. Sadly 'Hit The North' just ebbed the UK top 40, and I think personally it should have been a much bigger hit that it was. This is the type of track that paved the way to baggy, and arse kicked bands like The Happy Mondays into being. I'm sure Shaun Ryder won't give this credit, but if you listen to it real close, I'm sure you can hear him in there slobbering somewhere (or maybe I have lint on my stylus). Either way, I'm sure ANYONE who appreciates this stuff will die for this track, and perhaps renew some interest The Fall.

Track 1, Hit The North (Part 1)

I think you're right as well, the Fall are seriously underappreciated, for what is one of the most consistent bands you will every come across. That, coupled with the fact that the Fall don't bugger off for four years before they release a new album is a big statement! Also, a great b-side band. I bought the B-sides album (by mistake) in 89 as my introduction to them, and I just thought it was a best of, as it sounded so good. Great post, thankyou!
