Alphaville - Sounds Like A Melody 12"

If you were to summarize synthpop in the 80's, and then narrow your list down to JUST German bands, the obvious cream of the crop would be Alphaville. How could anyone have made a bigger impact on music in the 80's than the folks who brought you 'Forever Young', which is on probably EVERY slow song tape ever made. 'Forever Young' is probably the most notable track by this band, due to it's massive exposure, but there are quite a few other songs of note if you're just tuning in to Germany for the first time. 'Sounds Like A Melody' is a brilliant orchestral orgasm of a song, and this extended mix will leave you panting (and smoking after?) at a whopping 7:42. If that doesn't give you the fix you're after, try 'Big In Japan' or 'Jet Set', which are future posts in waiting. If your wiener STILL needs more sauerkraut, then throw on the extended mix of 'Forever Young' for a bop-around-the-house delve into your high school dance days. The best (and cheapest) way to obtain all these remixes would be The Singles Collection, and there you will find both the extended and lp version of some of the above mentioned tracks. Otherwise, start digging at your local shops, and grab some of these gem releases which should not be ignored. Germany has given us some great things in the past, sauerkraut, lederhosen, and Alphaville! Genießen!

More Alphaville, please! Especially the B-sides, which are almost impossible to find!
