The Dream Academy - Please Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want

One of the more memorable songs of the 80's which had very brief exposure on the film Ferris Beullers Day Off. Yes, this is a Smiths cover, but it's an amazing cover, and easily rivals the original. Since the above mentioned movie never had a soundtrack (and we would wonder why, as it's such a cult film!?) the 12" has become quite a scarce item to find. You should expect to pay upwards of $20 for it at record shows, and possibly more off Ebay. As with all the Dream Academy releases, the song it beautiful, glistening with blissful pop which SHOULD have endeared this band to a wider audience, but left them with only 1 notable single. If you like the dreamy soft pop of the 80's, and like this single, you should try more from this band. If anyone needs a resurgence today, I would say Dream Academy is in line. With all this said, grab this while you can, and grab the original when you see it about. It's worth the investment, as it's always been one of my favorite songs.

is there such an item for purchase as a "12 version of "The Edge of Forever" from the Dream Academy?

This might help you, though I'm not sure if it's extended or not.

Ferris.... this remain as one of my favourite movie. The instrumental version was stuck in my head since 1986 (right after the movie in the summer time), all the way to my wedding day and it was my second dance song at my wedding.

I remember going mad over the sounscapes of The Dream Academy back in the day. I got everything they released that I could get a hold on. This included a laser disc (remember those?) that featured the video of "Please..." Strangely enough, the 12" vinyl of this song that you have featured here never reached our shores.
When I finally moved out of the family home, I later found out that my mother had decided to donate soe of my "old stuff" which included A LOT of my very sizeable record collection in order to make room for renovations. A number of these items included 70's, 80's (a vast majority), and early 90's vinyl that were (and still are) never reissued as CD's. Heartbreaking. Still love my mom though.
Thanks for reminding me of this song. You wouldn't happen to know where I can purchase a vinyl of this would you?

Cheers,
John R.

Thank you for posting this. I just watched FBDO again - first time since early 90's- and the soundtrack is really amazing. I rewatched the museum scene twice just to hear this vsn which I had no idea was by Dream Academy.

Thank you for posting these tracks. I was recently listening to the Smiths after hearing about the soundtrack to (500) Days of Summer. She & Him (M.Ward and Zooey Deschanel) do a cover of "Please, Please, Please..." and I was listening to the original and reminded of the scene from Ferris Bueller's Day Off. I thought it was oddly similar, but didn't realize it was the same song (or a cover of it). The instrumental is definitely the better of the two, but was excited to get it. Thank you.
