A Bit From You

I'd like to welcome folks coming from the various blog sites and checking this one out! Thanks for stopping by, and hope you like what you see. I try to tell a bit about some bands I like, and share them with you. Now I give you a bit of homework! Please drop us a line here and tell anything cool about any of the bands you see here, be it a concert story, chance meeting or where you got the records.. It's cool to share these experiences with other people who venture here for a few reasons, but mainly I want to have some of your thoughts on what these bands meant to you, or what they mean now. Please take a few minutes and say a few things :)

P.S. anyone else in a deep freeze at the moment?

Brrrrr! Yes, very cold here also. Anything OMD or Vince Clarke for me. Thanks to the internet, I've learned of so many other great bands from the new wave era. Stores - not much left around here now that Tower closed. The idealcopy.com is another great online store.

I agree with your assessment of OMD. They are still my favorite synth band of that era for not only creating catchy singles, but making them sound utterly original and bizarre at the same time. I remember when Radiohead's "Kid A" came out and there was all this praise for a popular band making such a "strange" record. I was thinking, "Yeah, well, I guess none of these people have heard "Dazzle Ships". What a freaking awesome group.

Thanks for you site.

Big thanks for the OMD posting. I've seen them on four occasions, and looking forward to their reunion gig this year.

We in the UK are expecting a freeze this week, with up to one - or maybe two - inches of snow. ;)

You've got some magic music. So nice of you to share some of it!Unfortunately www.bestsharing.com you are using,is incredibly slow.It takes forever!

Sorry it's slow for you. I get decent speeds from there, and the files stay a lot longer than with other sites I've tried. It makes my life a lot easier, and saves me reposting every few weeks.

Nice blog. I used to live in Hamilton, On and now I'm enjoying 70 degree weather for the past two days. Not missing the weather there at all.

Hi,

Awesome site for some of us old school eighties fiends. OMD is/was a great band. I have found myself getting more into the remix versions of the various bands that were out and about then. It has been wonderful to find your blog with so much in the way of 12" singles that you have shared with us. For this many thanks. Being in SOuth Africa meant that we missed all the good bands of the eighties, but the albums were still available so we did not miss out completely. Now all we suffer is slow bandwidth, but I have found that with FreeDownloadManager and a tweak of the URL required (expires after 6 hours on webshare) I can get the full files down with no major problems.

Once again thanks for the time and effort you take to share your collection.

I am so glad I´ve found your blog, since then I´ve downloaded lots of 12"s , it´s also amazing that your taste is so similar as mine, I am very grateful!
Thanks for all, Daniel from Buenos Aires.
P.S.: I could send a list of my records if you like, in case you´d like to trade some stuff.
Thanks again!

Here's a story for you involving one of these artists. I used to buy all my import 12" singles at a wonderful record store. The owner knew I was a Smiths' fanatic, so she would save all the vinyl 12" singles for me, plus play me stuff she thought I would like, including Sandie Shaw's first single. At the time of this story, I had broken up with my boyfriend of 8 years, only to find out a few months after said breakup that he had full-blown AIDS. The day I got the test results back--which were negative--I was a bit on the "I can't believe I'm going to live" hysterical side. And as I was walking back from the hospital, I passed my favorite record store, and told the owner I was negative. She immediately got up, hugged me, then said, "Wait here." She came back, holding a copy of Sandie Shaw's "Frederick" 12" single, and said, "Since you're gonna live, you'll need something to sing along to. Now go in good health."

So yeah. I like the blog. A Sandie Shaw 12" I spent years looking for (then gave up). Made my day. Again.

:)
