All you past Mods will probably consider this an anthem of a song in your clubbing days. Yes, popping pills and dancing all night was run of the mill in those days, getting home at the crack of dawn 'alf pissed. If at say 4am you were running out of steam, this would be one of those tracks that would surely fill your tank back up. It's amazing to watch a dance floor light up for a mere few minutes whenever you play this song, it seems everyone knows it, but not necessarily any other Jam song. The Jam were brilliant, and had may amazing releases and were an essential band in the late 70's and early 80's. It's really hard for me to pick a favorite Jam album, and after careful deliberation I guess Sound Effects would be the one I play the most. Funnily enough, one of their weaker releases boasts this massive single in The Gift (which I don't mind at all). If you don't already know, The Jam split in 1982, and Paul Weller merged with Merton Parkas member Mick Talbot. Although The Style Council were decent enough, they were not The Jam, and maybe too much fluff for the aforementioned Mods who after listening to The Style Council renditions were either falling asleep or overdosing. The story ends happily enough with Paul Weller going it alone, and after a few attempts, writing some brilliant material that puts him back in form. If you're in the mood for something new, give Wild Wood or Heliocentric a listen, and hear what Weller sounds like today.

Nice to see some of the old Nettwerk releases here too- i remember flipping those jackets in the racks on 4th avenue in Vancouver in the old days...
